Learning Goal: Students will be able to describe the early geography and culture of Iraq.
Hook: How does a good investigation start?
Before we start class today, I want you to think about your favorite crime TV show or investigation book. How does it start? What do you think the first step should be for an investigator who really wants to deeply understand every aspect of the mystery?
Choices Pg. 1-13
Today we will start reading about the Iraq War. In our investigation of Iraq, we want to try to understand the big picture first and then narrow our view to the specific issue that we will be deal with. Today is all about the big picture and getting a feel for what Iraq is really all about. We will be reading in the Choices text from pg. 2 through pg. 7.
As we read, I want you to think of the class as an investigation team. The investigation will be more successful if we split up in teams. Therefore we will break down the reading by groups and then you will report out what you have discovered. (If you need to look back slightly in your packet to understand your section you may.)
Homework: Describe the Iraq History
For your homework, I would like you to describe what you now know about the history of Iraq. Please make this about one paragraph.
