Throughout this class, we will be uncovering what our style of learning is as well as our multiple intelligences. We will be working through this college level packet. This is difficult but if we work together you can do it. That means I need you to give me your undivided attention and politely tell me if something doesn't make sense -- remember it is hard for me to explain as well as hard for you to understand. Below is the packet we will be working through.
First, I will read the first page to you. What I want you to do is circle any of the characteristics that best describes you. When we are done, count up each characteristic you circled for each category and write that number off to the side. On the back of this paper you can write your numbers in the chart. This chart describes what it means to have that specific learning style.
Next you will get into groups based on what your learning style is. You will discuss the following questions:
Describe your favorite class ever. What made that class so great? Was it the style of work? Was it something the teacher did or how the room made you feel?
You are posed with a problem, how would you go about solving it? What questions would you ask and why? What would you need in order to solve the problem?
Your room looks like a hurricane followed by a tsunami followed by a blizzard followed by a tornado hit it. Small animals may be living in it and there is something growing that could possibly be used to make a new medication to cure all aliments. Your family tells you to clean it. How would you go about doing this? Why do you like it organized in a certain way (or lack there of)?
What does it mean to have your learning style? Be prepared to share with the rest of the class.
Multiple Intelligence Test
For this please answer all 10 of the questions listed in the chart. In the top right box, please pick the one answer you would choose if you did not have another option (a.k.a. the best answer). In the bottom left box, please check off all of the activities or answers that you like. When you are done, you will count up all of the checks on the left in each of the columns and put that answer in the bottom left box and then you will do the same for all of the top right answers in each column.
Next you may graph your answer. For your #1 score, create a bar graph. For your #2 score, create a line graph. In the pie graph below you may fill in your top scores for score 1 (the bar graph). Fill in each slice for the number you got in your top columns. This will give you a good graph of who you are as a learner.
We most likely will not have time to learn a lot about what these scores mean today so hang on to them for next class when we talk about Gardner's theory of 8 multiple intelligences.
