Learning Goal: Students will be able to make the Compare/Contrast matrix to more thoroughly compare and contrast topics with which they are familiar.
So You Think You Know How to Compare and Contrast?
Before we get into our deeper discussion of comparing and contrasting, please try comparing and contrasting your school experiences in elementary school, middle school, and high school in a few paragraphs. Aim for 3. Label it "School Comparison - Take 1". Once you are done, please turn it into our class folder.
While people are finishing up, please think about what was easy about this activity as well as what was challenging.
Creating a Better Way to Help You Compare/Contrast
Once everyone is done with the first part of the activity, we will try a possibly better way to complete activities like this in the future. Together we will make the following graph:
Criteria
Elementary School
Middle School
High School
Teachers
Classes
Friendships
Workload
Styles of Classrooms
Homework: School Comparison - Take 2
For homework, please redo you comparison of the different schools you have been to. This time, use the graphic that we created together to help you write your 3 paragraphs. I hope you find that this task is much easier to do now that we have done some pre-writing.
