Outsiders: Perspectives of Native Americans and Europeans
Learning Goal: Students will begin to understand how Native Americans and Europeans viewed each other.
Beginning Thoughts
Before we watch the video, I would like you to do some pre-thinking. This will help you to focus on the purpose and deeper meaning of the video.
The video we will be watching is called "We Shall Remain: America Through Native Eyes". On a piece of paper, please respond to the question: What do you think the phrase "We Shall Remain" means in terms of this documentary?
We Shall Remain: Episode 1 - After the Mayflower
To understand what happened after the Europeans arrived in "the New World" we will be watching the first episode of the series "We Shall Remain".
As we watch the video, please take notes and pay attention to how the Natives view the Europeans and how the Europeans view the natives. Put yourself in their shoes to understand what they thought of each other. When we are done watching the video, you will be answering the question, "What were the perspectives of the Native Americans and the Europeans on each other?" Keep this question in mind as you watch.
Homework: Analyzing Perspectives #1
For homework, please explain the perspectives of the Native Americans and the Europeans on each other. Please explain both perspectives with examples of how you know they thought this about each other. This will be due next class.
