Life During the Cold War: The Effects of the Cold War
Learning Goal: Students will be able to explain the ways in which their event/conflict/theme impacted Cold War society, politics, and economics at the time.
Hook: What do you think it would be like to live in the Cold War?
As a warm up to today's lesson, I would like you to draw on your desk what you think life would have been like in the Cold War. After you draw your picture, we will discuss this as a class.
Milestones in the Cold War
Next, we will examine two events that were powerful milestones during the Cold War, the Apollo 11 moon landing and the history of the Berlin Wall. We will be watching the following documentaries, "Tech Effect: Apollo 11" and "Declassified: Rise and Fall of the Wall".
As you watch these documentaries, I would like you to keep in mind the following questions:
How do you think these events affected the individual people that were living during the Cold War?
How do you think these events affected the countries involved in the Cold War?
How do you think these events affected the U.S. economy?
Homework: Explain how your topic affected parts of the Cold War
For your homework, I would like you to explain how at least two of your topics from each category in Research Guide #4 affected the U.S. during the Cold War time period. This will be due next class.
