Selma and Other Sites of the Civil Rights Revolution: The Protest Movements
Learning Goal: Students will be able to describe the major protest movements/events of the CRM and how they affected the nation in terms of social atmosphere, politics, and the economy.
The Protest Movements
We have talked about all the different themes of the Civil Rights Movement story. Now is the time for the biggest, most dramatic part of the movement; the revolution. This moment is when many protest movements were happening at the same time in different areas of the country. It is the protest and all of the actions of the people during the 1950s and 1960s that changed history. Since this happened all around the country, lets research the individual protest movements and then pin them on our interactive map. Use the resources below to learn about the protest movements of the Civil Rights Movement. (*As you research, collect pictures as well because we can add them to the map.)
Ms. McLean's research question: What were the social, political, and economic impacts of each of these movements?
Questions: 1. When did it happen? 2. Where did it happen? 3. What happened? 4. Why did it happen? 5. How did it effect social, political, and economic reform.
Now lets add your research and pictures to the map!
